Annie Gisler

Born in 1983 in Switzerland.

Annie Gisler is a Swiss screenwriter and director working in both fiction and documentary. Her films explore themes such as sexuality, intimacy, and social class — often through the lens of female experience. With empathy, humor, and a taste for social critique, she is drawn to characters on the margins and stories that navigate the space between the personal and the political, the tragic and the absurd.

Raised in Fribourg and currently based between Zurich and Lausanne, she studied photography and filmmaking in Switzerland, Spain, Argentina, and Costa Rica, and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Film from Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK) in 2013.

Her short films Sunday with the Family and Célestine (2013) screened internationally and received several awards. Her debut feature documentary, The Little Death (2018), which investigates the female orgasm, was shown at international festivals and broadcast worldwide, earning four awards. In 2021, she co-directed the collective feature documentary Les Nouvelles Èves, which was released theatrically in Switzerland and received both the Migros Kulturprozent CH.DOK award in 2020 and the Inner Switzerland Film Award in 2023.

She is currently co-writing La Révolution des Hallebardes, a satirical mockumentary developed in collaboration with director and author Antoine Russbach.

Alongside her own filmmaking, Annie currently coordinates Fitnessruum, a German-speaking development program from La Salle de Sport, supporting fiction feature projects in Switzerland. There, she organizes workshops, provides dramaturgical guidance and script feedback, and accompanies screenwriters throughout the development process.

Native French speaker, fluent in English, German, and Spanish.
